As many as 641 government-owned Twitter accounts, emails, websites have been hacked in the past five years, the Center told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

According to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, they followed a total of 175, 114, 61, 77, 186 and 28 websites, emails and social media accounts which have been hacked in the year 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. , 2021 and 2022 (until February) respectively.

Responding to a question regarding the measures taken by the government, the Minister said that whenever compromise takes place, the Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT-In) informs the concerned entities along with the measures corrective action to take.

“CERT-In coordinates incident response measures with relevant entities, service providers, industry-specific Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) as well as law enforcement agencies,” the minister said. to Lok Sabha in a written response.

Thakur said the government has taken several steps to improve cybersecurity posture and prevent cyberattacks.

“CERT-In regularly issues alerts and advisories regarding the latest cyber threats and countermeasures to ensure the safe use of digital technologies. It has issued 68 advisories to organizations and users for data security and mitigation of fraudulent activity,” the minister told the House. .

He said all government websites and apps are audited for cybersecurity before they are hosted. The audit is also carried out regularly after hosting.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said this in a written response to a question posed to the Lok Sabha whether the government intends to curb the spread of fake news through such means.
